Choosing Eyeglasses That Match Your Face Shape

Your face shape is one of the many factors that will determine whether or not a pair of eyeglasses will look good on you. Vienna Eyecare Center explains what you need to know about choosing the perfect eyeglasses:

Base-Down Triangular and Diamond Faces

There are seven primary face shapes: base down triangle, diamond, round, oblong, square, heart-shaped and oval. Base-down triangular faces have a narrow forehead and widen at the cheek and chin areas. People with this face shape need eyeglass frames that emphasize the narrow upper third of the face. Diamond-shaped faces are narrow at the jawline and forehead and they have broad cheekbones. Frames with distinctive brow lines and detailing are a good choice for this face shape.

Round, Oblong and Square Faces

Round faces have curved lines with the length and width in the same proportions and with no angles. As an eye exam and eyeglasses expert, we suggest angular narrow eyeglass frames, which will make a round face appear longer and thinner. Oblong faces have a long, straight cheek line and are longer than they are wide. They need frames that have more depth than width to make the face appear shorter. Square faces have a strong jaw and a broad forehead and they look best with narrow frame styles, which soften their angles.

Heart-Shaped and Oval Faces

Heart-shaped faces, also known as base-up triangular faces, have a wide top third and a narrow bottom third. They need frames that are wider at the bottom to balance things out. Oval faces are considered the ideal face shape because of their balanced proportions. They need eyeglass frames that are as wide as the broadest part of their faces.
