5 Questions to Ask Your Eye Doctor

Many people seem to go with the flow during their interactions with their eye doctor. However, it’s also good to ask them questions during the appointment to learn more about the state of your eyes. Here are five questions you can ask during an eye exam:

1. “Are my eyes as healthy as they can be?” Eye exams are done to check if your eyes are at their best or if there are problems that need to be addressed before they get worse. Patients who do everything they can to take care of their vision over the long term tend to have better eyesight as they grow older.

2. “What are the best vision correction options for my eyes?” Eye care isn’t the cheapest thing in the world. Some eye doctors may not tell you the best options for you to take care of your budget. If you’re willing to pay the price, it’s good to let your eye doctor know. This way, they will show you the best options in the market.

3. “Are digital devices affecting my eyes?” In this world of technology, many cannot pry their eyes away from gadgets and screens. Excessive screen time can lead to digital eye strain, with patients experiencing headaches, blurred vision, dry eyes and neck and shoulder pain. The good thing is your doctor can make specialized prescription glasses and contact lenses to address the symptoms of digital eye fatigue.

4. “Do I need to take any particular steps to protect my eyes?” Protective eyewear and contact lens care are some of our recommendations. Through our specialty lenses, you can protect yourself from the harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays that may damage your eyes. Also, you can talk to your eye doctor about the type of eyewear to wear for your line of work.

5. “When should I return for my next visit?” Your visits will vary depending on your age, vision and medical history. Nevertheless, you must do your best to follow your schedule of appointments. This way, you can make sure that your eyes are healthy or, if problems occur, you can address them early.
