5 Effective Digital Eye Strain Remedies

Digital devices have certainly made our everyday lives more convenient. However, there are some downsides. Using an electronic device like your computer, tablet or smart phone for an extended period of time can cause computer vision syndrome, which causes symptoms like visual discomfort, headaches and even neck and shoulder pain.

In today’s post, your reliable eye doctor from Vienna Eyecare Center shares five remedies to this problem.

1. Have Good Posture

Slouching can prevent you seeing your screen properly, causing your eyes to work harder and increasing your risk of computer vision syndrome. Having good posture reduces the pressure on your ocular muscles. We advise investing in an ergonomic chair with back support and a cushioned seat for your improved comfort.

2. Invest in Good Lighting

Your trusted optometrist explains that working in an office space with punishing fluorescent lights can contribute to computer vision syndrome. Insufficient lighting, on the other hand, may force your eye muscles to exert more effort, which can also cause discomfort. Floor lamps are a good indirect light source. You may also use blinds or curtains to control the amount of outdoor light that enters your area.

3. Adjust Your Monitor’s Settings

Brightly lit monitors emit more blue rays, which are the primary cause of computer vision syndrome. Adjust your monitor’s brightness settings to match that of your surroundings. Using an anti-glare screen can also help.

4. Follow the 20-20-20 Rule

Using your electronic devices for a prolonged time may reduce your blinking rate, leading to eye fatigue and dry eyes. To avoid this, follow the 20-20-20 rule. After 20 minutes on your device, rest your eyes on an object 20 feet away for 20 seconds.

5. Wear Computer Eyeglasses

Another effective way to prevent computer vision syndrome is to wear computer eyeglasses. They block glare and high-energy visible light from entering your eyes, maintaining your visual comfort.
